Open Access Policy

JSHE is a fully open-access journal committed to the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). All published content is made freely available online immediately upon publication. There are no subscription fees, institutional access fees, or reader charges of any kind. JSHE operates under the Gold Open Access model, meaning the final published version of every article is immediately and permanently freely accessible to all readers worldwide.

All articles published in JSHE are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Under this license, any user is free to read, download, share, adapt, and reuse published work for any purpose — including commercial purposes — provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and source, a link to the CC BY 4.0 license is provided, and any changes made to the original work are clearly indicated.

Authors retain full copyright over their published work. By submitting to JSHE, authors grant the journal a non-exclusive license to publish, reproduce, and distribute the article. JSHE's open access model means authors are free to archive, share, and reuse their published articles without restriction or embargo. Authors may post preprints to any server — including bioRxiv, SportRxiv, or OSF Preprints — at any stage, before or after submission. Following acceptance, the accepted manuscript and the published version of record may be self-archived in institutional or subject repositories immediately upon publication, without any embargo period.
